Your rights as an NDIS participant in 2026
Alongside the funding changes, 2026 brings new rules aimed at protecting participants. This is a plain-English summary of the safeguarding changes and what they mean for you, with links to the official sources.
Stronger provider regulation
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has introduced new rules that, from 1 July 2026, bring in mandatory registration for providers delivering certain supports, including Supported Independent Living and NDIS digital platform services. The Commission states the reforms are designed to improve quality, consistency and safeguarding, and to support participant-centred, rights-based supports.
Faster reporting when something goes wrong
Providers now face shorter timeframes to report major changes or incidents to the Commission. In practice, this means problems affecting a participant should reach the regulator faster - a protection against issues being allowed to continue unreported.
Your core rights have not changed
Whatever else shifts, your fundamental rights as a participant remain: the right to be treated with respect, to make your own decisions, to choose and change your providers, and to speak up when something is wrong. A clear service agreement with any provider sets out what you can expect - the NDIA runs regular participant webinars on choosing providers and understanding service agreements.
Why this matters
Choosing a provider means choosing who comes into your home and your life. That is why transparency matters - being able to see who a provider is, what supports they offer, and having a clear, honest record of the support you receive. Juste is built around that principle: participants can approve or block workers, and every shift is recorded by both the worker and the participant in a way that cannot be quietly changed after the fact.
